Suite/Renter Start Up Checklist!
Congrats to you!
You made the decision to become a chair renter or a suite owner!
Now what happens? So much to do and so much to plan for now that you are running your own business. Here are some things to check in on before you take the plunge.
Location is key! How far is it from where you are? Is it accessable to your current clients? Is there plenty of parking? Is there easy access and foot traffic? All things to think about when moving into a suite or a salon as a renter
Plan out a growth strategy. How will you continue to build your business? What does your marketing strategy look like? How much money will you spend? How will you get new clients in your chair?
CHECKLIST
Pricing. Do you have your price list set and ready to go for your new business? Have you calculated your expenses in your new space to charge accordingly? Do you know what it costs you per minute to run your business? Do you understand cost of product per service?
Set goals. What do you want to accomplish in your first year as a renter or suite owner? What is your projected revenue? What does your schedule look like?
Make sure you check into the cost of liability insurance. I suggest finding a local insurance broker to help you break down the cost.
Find a good CPA. One that understands our business. I recommend Quickbooks for your book keeping, especially if you DIY. However you need a good CPA in your back pocket. Be sure to pull a profit and loss statement each month.
When you get to the point of signing a rental agreement. Be sure to have it looked over by a second set of eyes. Check to see what is included in your rent. How long your rental agreement is? The list goes on. I would HIGHLY suggest having an attorney look over your rental agreement.
Apply for a business license to be sure you are compliant with your state labor laws.
KNOW your numbers inside and out. What is your target profit? How much can you afford to pay yourself? What are your monthly sales? What Is your client retention? How many NEW cleints are you seeing? What is your % booked?
Check into and pick your perfect salon software. I recommend checking into Phorest, Gloss Genius, and Schedulicity
